2004: The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) has installed over 180 micro-Hydro Power units in remote communities in the Hindu Kush, North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. The units supply electricity to about 175,000 people. The program won a 2004 Ashden Award. The Ashden Awards promote local sustainable energy solutions in the UK and the developing world (Ashden Awards, 2004).
