2004: IT Power (ITPI), of India, works with the Watermillers Association of Chamoli (WMA-C) to upgrade 70 traditional watermills in the Himalayas. Mill upgrades involve the replacement of the wooden shaft and blades with one of cast steel. The program won a 2004 Ashden Award. The Ashden Awards promote local sustainable energy solutions in the UK and the developing world (Ashden Awards, 2004).
