2005: Trees, Water and People (TWP) and AHDESA, not-for-profit organizations based in the USA and Honduras, have helped install over 4000 fuel efficient wood-burning stoves for cooking in Honduras. The stoves are called Justa. One of the program’s goals is to reduce deforestation. AHDESA works to educate poor rural and urban communities about the risks of smoke and deforestation, and how to install the stoves. The program won a 2005 Ashden Award. The Ashden Awards promote local sustainable energy solutions in the UK and the developing world (Ashden Awards, 2005).
