2006: A strong majority will support higher gas taxes if the money is used to reduce oil imports and combat global warming.

2006: A NY Times survey reports that a majority of Americans will not support a gas tax hike but a strong majority will support higher gas taxes if the money is used to reduce oil imports and combat global warming (Carson & Vaitheeswaran, 2007).
