2007Aug7: Climate change could destroy large areas of Indian farmland.

2007Aug7: Jacques Diouf, the head of the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization, says that increased droughts and floods due to climate change could destroy large areas of Indian farmland. “Rain-fed agriculture in marginal areas in semi-arid and sub-humid regions is mostly at risk…India could lose 125 million tons of its rain-fed cereal production – equivalent to 18% of its total production,” Diouf said (IHT, 2007).
