2007Dec12: An area around Noordwaard, in the southwest part of The Netherlands, will be allowed to flood. This is part of ‘Room for the River’, a plan to sacrifice certain land areas to keep the rest of the country safer from floods. The action is expected to achieve a 30 cm drop in water levels at nearby Gorinchem (PhysOrg, 2007).
