2008Jan21: The Environmental Audit Committee, comprised of UK government MPs, urges the EU to abandon biofuel targets because they are expensive, elevate food prices, threaten food supplies, do not go far enough to cut greenhouse gas emissions, and damage the environment. “Biofuels can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road transport – but at present most biofuels have a detrimental impact on the environment overall,” said Committee chairman Tim Yeo (BBC, 2008).
