2008Feb13: Researchers at San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography report that there is a 50% chance that Lake Mead, located on the Colorado River in the states of Nevada and Arizona, will run dry by 2021. The researchers estimate that there is a 10% chance that Lake Mead will run out of usable water by 2014. Effects of climate change, growing populations, and natural forces are given as reasons for expected changes. Lake Mead is the largest man-made lake and water reservoir in the US (Washington Post, 2008).
