2008Mar6: Countries where rising basic food costs are expected to have a most direct impact, according to the UN World Food Programme: Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Haiti, Djibouti, the Gambia, Tajikistan, Togo, Chad, Benin, Burma, Cameroon, Niger, Senegal, Yemen and Cuba. Basic food costs have been rising because of high energy and grain costs, climate change effects, and biofuel demand (BBC, 2008).
