2009May-June: Hashem Akbari and Surabi Menon, scientists at the Environmental Energy Technologies Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and Art Rosenfeld, California Energy Commissioner, Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, and former Berkeley Lab scientist, present Cool World, a plan that would promote the use of white roofs, and solar-reflective roofs of other colors, and would be the equivalent of taking the world’s 600 million cars off the road for 18 years. The plan was outlined in Akbari, Rosenfeld & Menon’s paper, “Global cooling: increasing world-wide urban albedos to offset CO2,” that appeared in the journal Climatic Change Vol. 95 Joint Issue 3-4 (May-June 2009).
