2009July: eBay installs five Bloom Boxes on its San Jose campus. A Bloom Box is a collection of solid-oxide fuel cells that act as a personal power plant. eBay’s Bloom Boxes, which run on biogas made from landfill waste, power about 15% of the campus and has saved the company about $100,000 in electricity costs, according to eBay’s President and CEO John Donahoe in a 60 Minutes interview broadcast Feb 21, 2010 (Christian Science Monitor).
