2009July31: Output from Ireland’s wind turbines peaked at 999MW on July 31, which was enough to supply over 650,000 homes. About 39% of Ireland’s demand for electricity was met from wind at certain times that day, according to Michael Kelly, a spokesman for Eirgrid, the state-owned commercial company that operates the electricity grid (NY Times, 2009).
