2009July31: Cash for Clunkers and a 69% improvement in fuel economy.

2009Aug3: Participants in the US government’s Cash for Clunkers program are getting a 60.8% improvement in fuel economy, as most people are trading in sport utility vehicles, trucks, and vans and purchasing new, more fuel efficient cars, according to the US Department of Transportation (New York Times, 2009).
