
2009Oct4: Glaciers in the Himalayas and the Tibetan plateau are melting at an accelerated rate because of the effects of black carbon, according to scientists in Delhi and Beijing. Black carbon is produced from diesel fumes and cooking with wood, crop waste or cow dung (Guardian.co.uk, 2009).
