2009Oct26: Increasing average fuel efficiency in 50% of cars from 20.8 mpg to 30.7 mpg would reduce U.S. carbon emissions by about 30 million metric tons, according to a study led by ecologist and sociologist Thomas Dietz of Michigan State University (Scientific American).
